REALTOR is a misunderstood word by most. In fact some REALTORS misunderstand what the term means. That is fine; we will straighten it all out right now!
As defined on realtor.com
A real estate agent is a REALTOR when he or she is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS.
The term REALTOR is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS and subscribes to its Code of Ethics.
The truth is you can get a real estate license and not be a REALTOR. Many agents that practice commercial real estate exclusively never become REALTORS. Sometimes the agent at the new construction/builder home sales offices around town are not REALTORS. This is the symbol you should look for when looking for a professional to help you in a real estate transaction. Ask the representative if they are a REALTOR. REALTORS are held to a higher standard!
